Society of Urban Perambulators: Logan's Run Redux
August 19, 2023
10:45 am (meet up at Logan Street Market)
11:00 am (walking tour will begin)
Due to rain we had to reschedule our last event so the next Society of Urban Perambulators (SoUP) event is set for Saturday, August 19th. You'll want to join us for an exciting tour of some projects that span the spectrum from the potential revitalization of a historic theater block to the current redevelopment of a historic icehouse and much more. There are a lot of great things happening where the neighborhoods of Smoketown, Germantown and Paristown Point come together.
We will meet at Logan Street Market at (1001 Logan St, Louisville, KY 40204) at 10:45 am and begin the stroll at 11:00 am.
We will see a new and exciting redevelopment project at the corner of Logan and Mary. You will have to join the tour to find out more on this project!
Just down the street on Kentucky we will have a chance to check out the new Germantown Gables adaptive reuse wedding venue with Mike Safai.
And across the street we will see Hope Mills with John Gonder. Hope Mills was built in 1904 as a worsted woolen mill and later was a tobacco warehouse. The space has been revived into a series of creative work spaces and other uses for artists and entrepreneurs.
We will make our way towards Broadway and walk through the Paristown Pointe redevelopment area.
From there we will be stopping by the Epping District and meeting up with Terry Zink to explore almost an entire block of buildings along East Broadway at the corner of Logan Street, including a historic theater (main photo at the top of this Field Notes post) and have an opportunity to ideate around the possibilities of the site.
We will also stop by 801 Logan, the historic icehouse development on Logan Street, where James Duffy and Mitchell Kersting will show us around, hear about some amazing plans for the 13-story icehouse structure, the historic distillery building, the Trellis Brewing building under construction and some great plans for the area along Beargrass Creek.
See the aerial map below for a general idea of the loop we will be walking. You won't want to miss this.
The Society of Urban Perambulators is a program by the Urban Design Studio at the University of Louisville. There is a SoUP Facebook Group if you are interested in joining. The events are free and open to the public, but we ask that you RSVP with our Director, Patrick Piuma (patrick.piuma@louisville.edu), so we know how many people to expect and who to contact if event details change.
We are looking forward to seeing everyone again and exploring another part of our city!
