Society of Urban Perambulators: Downtown Clarksville
August 10, 2024
10:45 am (meet up at Coffee Crossing on Spring Street)
11:00 am (walking tour will begin)

The next Society of Urban Perambulators (SoUP) event will be taking place in the newest downtown in the Louisville region. This compelling tour will grant you unique access to some new development projects along Clarksville’s new Main Street. Downtown Clarksville’s development pattern puts an emphasis on pedestrians and mixed-use structures. Join us to see the start of an exciting up-and-coming neighborhood.

We will meet at Coffee Crossing (228 Spring St Ste 105, Jeffersonville, IN 47130) at 10:45 am and begin a trek to Clarksville at 11:00 am. We will be joined by a member of Clarksville’s planning department who will be able to give us more information about the new downtown as a whole.

The first development we will visit is also the first one built: phase one of Bolt & Tie. This is a mixed-use development featuring retail, apartments, and offices. We will be guided through by Cornerstone Group, Kyle Hoehn.

Right next door we will check out an adaptive reuse project, turning an old warehouse into pickleball and gym facilities. This location is also owned by Cornerstone Group.

After this, we will stroll down to Clarksville’s signature Colgate Building to discuss other future development possibilities such as the new Southern Indiana Convention Center and Amtrak. A member or two of Clarksville’s planning department will be here to help guide the discussion and answer questions.

Heading back down Main Street, our last major development will be the recently completed Current812. This is a mixed-use project featuring luxury apartments and retail spaces. We will be guided through this building by property manager Tina Lane.

Last stop will be the under-construction gateway at the beginning of Main Street. Here we will cover a couple more topics such as the plans for the gateway, waterfront, and anything else that hasn’t been discussed.

We will wrap things up at Ten20 Craft Brewery on Main Street or another nearby restaurant such as Upland, depending on when we end the tour.

The Society of Urban Perambulators is a program by the Urban Design Studio at the University of Louisville. There is a SoUP Facebook Group if you are interested in joining. The events are free and open to the public, but we ask that you RSVP with our Director, Patrick Piuma (patrick.piuma@louisville.edu), so we know how many people to expect and who to contact if event details change.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone again and exploring a burgeoning downtown!
