Work is beginning at Founders Square as the Trager MicroForest Project gets underway. Last week, fencing was put up around the site in preparation for the demolition of the existing crossing paths in the middle of the site. The granite benches within the Phase 1 construction area are currently being removed by Louisville Metro to be stored. The central pavers and concrete within the Phase 1 plan will be removed as we try to reduce the amount of hardscape impacting the existing trees.
This project's goal is to create a healthier city, so we are focusing on preserving and improving the existing tree canopy before the more intense tree plantings are introduced.
As construction begins, our friends at Kertis Creative have installed a timelapse camera so we can see how the site transforms over the coming months. This is in addition to our Chronolog camera stands, one of which is still accessible for citizen scientists to help capture the park transformation.
We will be posting weekly updates in our Field Notes on the state of progress for the project.
