This summer, the Urban Design Studio (UDS) and the Greenprint Initiative welcomed two interns through the Jean Frazier Leadership Institute at Sacred Heart Academy. Two rising juniors, Vivian Cox and Sara Cunningham, gained hands-on experience with the Greenprint initiative while working alongside professionals at the Urban Design Studio, the Envirome Institute, and partner organizations. Their work included Geographic Information Systems (GIS) analysis, assessing the health of the Trager MicroForest, developing GIS web applications, and supporting other Greenprint projects. They captured their experiences and accomplishments in the StoryMap below.

While UDS typically works with college interns, our Urban Futures program has allowed us to deepen our experience working with younger folks across the county. So far, Urban Futures has primarily focused on creating collaborative units/lessons on urban design and history with local teachers. This Greenprint internship is the first foray into more directly working with high school students outside of the classroom.
