CycLouvia is Louisville's Open Streets Program.
With a public health grant from Louisville Metro, the Urban Design Studio brough Gil Peñalosa of 8-80 Cities for a public talk "Creating a Healthy Vibrant Louisville" through the Sustainable City Series on March 13th of 2012. Along with the public event, the UDS hosted a focused workshop at the studio with Louisville Metro department heads and staff for an in-depth discussion with the hope that Gil's work on open streets programs could be implemented in the city. By the end of the workshop the seeds of what was to become CycLouvia were planted. Only a few months later Louisville hosted the first open streets event and such a success that it has continued and expanded. Once the current pandemic has receded and it is safe for us all to gather in community, we look forward to many more CycLouvia events.
