12 Feb Louisville Loses Our Biggest Tree Advocate

It is with great sadness that we learned this morning of the passing of Mark White, Louisville Metro’s City Arborist. I am extremely thankful to have had the opportunity to spend some quality time recently with Mark on the YouthBuild Smoketown Streetscape project, where Mark and I had a chance to canvas the area and identify the locations and variety of the nearly 160 trees to be planted last fall.

Mark has been an amazing resource and friend to me and the Urban Design Studio’s tree canopy efforts. He was an amazing wealth of knowledge and cared passionately about our city. We will miss Mark dearly. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends.

The next time you walk down the street and wonder at the beautiful trees that grace our city streets and the efforts to improve our tree canopy, please take a moment to think of Mark.
