Louisville SOLAR Tour Forum On Saturday, October 6th, the Urban Design Studio hosted the Louisville SOLAR Tour forum, part of the National SOLAR Tour. The forum consisted of a number of presentations by local solar advocates including homeowners, architects, urban planning students and more. The event was well attended with standing room only by the time the speakers began their presentations.
Following the forum, participants were able to take a self-guided tour of predetermined sites to meet with home owners, developers, and see projects under construction related to solar energy.
"Lighten Up" Student Sculpture Contest for Solar Tour Students from Meyzeek Middle School created sculptures inspired by solar energy and presented them at the Urban Design Studio to kick off the Louisville SOLAR Tour.
SUPA Spring 2007 Open House Every spring the Urban Design Studio hosts the University of Louisville's School of Urban and Public Affairs Open House. This event showcases the Master of Planning Student's work over the previous year and provides a good opportunity for the community to meet rising stars and learn about current research projects. The event is always open to the public and the 2007 Open House offered live music by student Yani Vozos and Metro Planning and Design's Steve Sizemore. A great spread of appetizers was catered by Ramsi's Cafe.
Rhodia Industrial Site Study Professor Mark O'Bryan's architecture students presented their work focused on visioning for the Rhodia Site in the heart of Louisville.
Bicycle and Pedestrian Presentation Dr. John Pucker of Rutger's University presented his research on bicycle and pedestrian transportation. Prior to the presentation, Dr. Tom Owens, Councilman and local historian, took a group of students and faculty from the University of Louisville on a walking tour of Louisville from the Old Louisville neighborhood north to the Central Business District (CBD) and finally the riverfront via the Belveder.
Conservation Design Workshop Randall Arendt presents a workshop on Conservation Design to architects, planners, and developers.
